FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do balloons fly?
Balloons operate through the basic principles of gravity and heat transfer. When the air inside the balloon heats up, it rises and as the air cools, it descends. To make the balloon fly a burner equipped with a fan is used, which fills it with hot air.
What are the main parts of a hot air balloon?
The balloons of today have 3 parts: wrap, nacelle and burners. Wrap and nacelle are joined with cables. The burners are placed to direct the flame of fire towards the entrance of the envelope (ring of the mouth). In the basket is well protected, the gas used to produce the flare (which is now propane, safer than hydrogen and helium). Complementary instruments for safety and air navigation: an altimeter, a variometer (measures the average vertical speed), a thermometer, a compass, a GPS, some maps of the flight area, a radio and an extinguisher.
What is the envelope?
The wrapping consists of vertical strips joined together, of a waterproof synthetic material (nylon or polyester), able to withstand the high temperatures of the interior. Its volume depends on the models and the load capacity they can withstand. The regulars, which we will see by air, are among the models of 1,800 m3 and 3,000 m3.
What is a balloon car made of?
The nacelles are usually wicker or interwoven rush and have a cubic shape.
Are all hot air balloons the same?
All hot air balloons consist of a burner system, a basket and a wrap. The differences are given in the shape and size, the emptying system, the shape of the basket and its design, and the number of burners.
What is the average life of a balloon?
Depending on the care given, a balloon envelope can last five hundred or more flight hours. The basket usually lasts much longer, perhaps thousands of flight hours, if you receive the proper care.
Can you direct a balloon?
The winds determine the direction of a balloon. The pilot can direct a balloon, to some extent, by adjusting the altitude, to make use of different wind speeds and the directions in which it blows.
How many people can travel in a hot air balloon?
The capabilities of our balloons range from a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 21 passengers.
How long is a hot air balloon flight?
This depends on the type of flight. The standard flight lasts approximately one hour and the exclusive flight takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
What fuel do balloons use?
Our hot air balloons transport up to 80 liters of propane in stainless steel tanks.
At what altitude do balloons fly?
Balloons usually fly below 2000 feet, in correspondence with the State Aviation Regulations.
How safe is a balloon?
A hot air balloon is considered one of the safest ways to fly. Serious accidents are very rare.
What happens if the burner goes out?
If the burner goes out, the emergency burner is activated. If that does not work, there are two other spare burners. If there is no burner left, the balloon would descend to the ground similar to a parachute.
How long does it take to inflate and deflate the balloon?
Our ground crew can inflate and take off a balloon in fifteen minutes or less. It takes approximately the same amount of time to deflate and pack the balloon after the flight.
Do you need a pilot’s license to man it?
Yes. All of our pilots have official Turkish civil aviation licenses and international civil aviation authorities.
Why fly early in the morning?
It flies during the first hours after sunrise, because it is a calmer time, the coolest part of the day. This allows a soft landing and the maximum lifting capacity of the balloon. In addition, there is the splendor of a beautiful sunrise. The whole experience lasts from 3 to 4 hours, so you will have the rest of the day to enjoy the many attractions of Cappadocia.
What do I wear, what should I wear?
It depends on the season. You can fly in the winter too! For the summer: jeans or casual pants and flat heels. For winter: warm clothes, winter jacket, etc.,
How do the passengers stay in the car?
Passengers normally travel in the nacelle while standing on the flight. But do not worry, the car and its edges reach the height of the chest.
Where will we go?
We go where the wind takes us. In flight we depend on air currents, so the pilot heats the air inside the balloon with the burner to rise in currents with different directions.
Where do we touch earth?
We will descend to land in open fields, many in the area that fly over. Your pilot will start the descent, slowly, when they fly over a suitable place for landing. There they are received by our experienced ground staff.
What happens with the weather conditions?
Before flying, we will check the wind speed. In general, we fly when there are winds of less than 10 miles per hour.
Is age a problem?
Our flight is not recommended for children under 10 or adults approaching 80.
It feels?
Once up, you will not notice any movement or turbulence of the wind, as we fly in the air currents. It’s much more subtle than an elevator ride. As we fly over the trees and float on the field, we have a sense of peace and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the place. Some passengers describe the feeling as “romantic”.
Does it include insurance?
Yes. All passengers are insured up to 1,000,000 euros by the international insurance company, Allianz, also based in Turkey.
What is the difference between a luxury flight and a standard flight?
Our luxury tour offers a comfortable and intimate atmosphere to enjoy the fairy chimneys. The balloons used for luxury travel only accommodate 10 to 12 passengers, so you have more free space. The flight takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, to ensure that you can see all that this amazing area has to offer. The standard route uses our larger balloons, which will accommodate between 16 and 21 passengers. The flight takes approximately 1 hour. Although shorter than the luxury flight, the standard offers enough time to admire the unmistakable beauty of the place.
What includes?
We pick you up at your hotel. You will have a light breakfast before departure. The end of the flight will be celebrated with a glass of champagne and we will give you your balloon flight certificate. We can help you celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or any other special occasion.
