PROGRAM:
The ancient Byzantium, today Istanbul, was founded by Greek settlers more than 500 years before Christ, on the banks of the Golden Horn, in the European part of the city. Since then, it was occupied and destroyed by Persians, Athenians, Spartans and Macedonians (Alexander the Great); until in the year 100 a.C. became part of the then Republic of Rome.
With the coming to power of Constantine the Great, Byzantium began to be called Constantinople – the city of Constantine – and became the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, also known as the Byzantine Empire, which lasted until 1453, when the city passed into to be the capital of a new conquering empire: the Ottoman.
Our tour begins at the Roman Hippodrome where we can admire the following wonders of the Byzantine Empire: the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, the German Fountain and the Column of Constantine. We will visit the first floor of the Basilica of Saint Sophia, a Byzantine temple from the 6th century, built by Justinian the Great and that is currently a museum that shows the most incredible Byzantine mosaics.
Then we will arrange to visit the Basilica Cistern, equipped with 300 columns inside, and which was used as a water deposit to facilitate the needs of the Imperial Palace.
After this visit lunch will be held in a restaurant located next to the Byzantine Church of Christ Pantocrator, the second largest in Istanbul, which was also converted into a mosque in the fifteenth century.
In the afternoon, we will make a guided visit to the Byzantine Basilica of San Salvador in Chora, where we will marvel at the magnificent frescoes that tell the story of Christianity.
We remind you that this exclusive route is a guided tour by our qualified professionals, in which it has a wide range of luxury vehicles for private transportation around the city, and we assure you that the restaurants in which you will delight culinary are a selection of the most outstanding of Istanbul.
